Think Breakfast: Modern Sewerage Systems Down the Drain
It’s not usually a topic for the dinner table, but with current urbanisation, climate change, and population growth patterns, modern sewerage management systems are under threat and require widespread reassessment.
Through history, sewerage (dubbed ‘activated sludge’ by academics) waste processes have mirrored the evolution of civilisation. However, with the current systems in place dating back 200 years, calls for new processes are emerging, with the risk rising sea levels pose to traditionally coastline-based solutions continuing to increase.
Think Sustainability’s Miles Herbert spoke to Nic about the current state of waste management and why old methods need to be flushed out.
