Thriving Socials of the LGBTIQ+ Community
Social media is notorious for a number of issues, such as cyberbullying, declined self-image, and privacy, but we focus on the much more beneficial side. During the COVID-19 lockdown, many individuals of the LGBTIQ+ community were forced to reside in households that weren’t ideal circumstances. Thanks to social media, it was found that they thrived within the digital world instead, living vicariously through their online identities. We had Benjamin Hanckel, Senior Research Fellow at Western Sydney University, talk more about his research into this.
