Film: Anatomy of a Fall

Directed by Justine Triet, this French Legal thriller follows the attempt by writer Sandra Voyer to clear her name of wrongdoing after the suspicious death of her husband. As the investigation into her husbands death unfolds, the nature of their relationship is put under the spotlight and secrets, affairs, and mental instability all point words Sandra being the culprit. Anatomy of a Fall won the 2023 Palme d’Or, two Golden Globes and was nominated for five Oscars.

Television: Drops of God

Based on the Japanese Manga of the same name, Drops of God is a story of about family, legacy and wine. Camille Léger’s father has died, an world famous wine critic with and she travels to Tokyo to claim her inheritance. However she is confronted with her father’s business heir-apparent, Issei Tomine, who is also claiming to inherit the family business. A secret competition is revealed to them; they must compete to determine the quality, types and flavours of 12 wines, the Drops of God and whoever can solve the riddles will be the leader of the Léger empire.

Film: May December

This American drama follows actor Elizabeth (Natalie Portman) who is researching her role for an independent film, based on the life of Gracie (Julianne Moore), a local high school teacher who had sex with a 13 year old student. Elizabeth meets Gracie and begins to interview her and her husband Joe Yoo (Charles Melton), the same schoolboy Gracie had sex with as a teacher. The moral greys of consent, grooming, relationships and life intimating art are explored in a nuanced, exciting and bold drama.

Album: Blue Raspberry, Kirby Katy

The 2nd album from the Nashville based singer songwriter Katy Kirby is a deftly woven collection exploring romantic horizons. The 11 tracks here weave slightly indie and folk flavours in quite a reserved manner. Songs develop as they come with vocals featuring heavily throughout, with a variety of instrumentation and intricate arrangements. An album that gathers momentum each time you listen to it, Blue Raspberry is a another success for Kirby Katy.
