Women with gestational diabetes at higher risk of developing type 2

When we talk about diabetes, we often forget about gestational diabetes and that around 5% of women in Australia will be diagnosed during pregnancy.
This typically happens at the 24-28 week period, but unlike type 1 and type 2 it doesn’t last forever because when the child is born the diabetes goes away.
However, experiencing gestational diabetes does put women at a higher risk of developing type 2 later in life.
