Women struggle to access abortions as Zika crisis continues
A report in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) has found an increase in demand for abortions in Zika affected countries. Brazil in particular saw a significant rise, of over 50 per cent. But with abortion still illegal in Brazil, and real data hard to find, it’s impossible to know how many people who are seeking abortions are actually ending their pregnancies. The data used for the report in the NEJM was from online information and advocacy platform, Women on Web, who provide free abortions to women across the globe.
