Australia remains one of the world’s top deforesters, and is the only developed nation on the list, and Australian researchers are developing new and innovative ways to restore and preserve forests sustainably and cheaply.  

Recent research into the replanting of 20 million trees nationwide found little impact on the threatened species these trees were meant to support, suggesting the need to improve tree and seedling survival.

In the wet tropics, these researchers have shown we can reduce the cost of restoration many fold from $60-80 000 a hectare to below $10 000.
