The New Paleo: 106 Year Old Cake and a Bug Burger
The National Food and Drink Editor at Fairfax, Callan Boys tells us the most interesting food news of the week.
The Antarctic heritage trust uncovered a 106 year old fruitcake in the North pole and it was claimed to be ‘almost edible’. If you didn’t already know, Boys explains how fruit cake is easily preserved because of the high sugar and alcohol content. Beware when you do find one to eat around the house, some could be sentimentally passed down through generations and you could be eating a piece of family history!
Switzerland isn’t just known for their chocolate, they now have bug burgers in their supermarkets! It’s not just a gimmick, there are professional marketing campaigns to sell the product and this delicacy is being described as “the way of the future”.
