Vivid Shines a Light on Amazing Algae
This year, for the very first time, Sydney’s Vivid is hosting a living, breathing exhibit, thanks to a body of algal researchers from the University of Technology Sydney and the CSIRO.
Down near Customs House on Circular Quay, you’ll find 18 tall perspex tubes full of bubbling algae-rich liquid, lit up with LED lights.
The exhibit isn’t just beautiful – it’s also educating visitors about the amazing potential of algae as a raw material for creating new foods, medicines, and even a clean energy future.
Dr Alex Thomson from the Deep Green Biotech Hub at the University of Technology Sydney joined Tess for a chat about the “Living Lights” exhibit and the wonders of algae. You can learn more about the future applications of algae at “Algae is the New Black” – a free forum taking place at 18:00 on June 9th at the MCA (Eventbrite bookings essential).
