Anticos Vital to Australian Artistic Landscape
According to the Australian Arts Council, the average Australian artist makes approximately $18,000 per annum from their creative work alone. Most artists have secondary jobs in order to make ends meet. Especially in these COVID-19 affected times, those in the arts are struggling with concerts cancelled, gallery openings moving online only, and industries where artists often work such as hospitality being all but decimated. The role of art prizes has never been more important.
Marlene Antico OAM started the Paddington Prize in 2004. Earlier this month the competition opened for submissions with $30,000 being awarded to the winning landscape painting. Chris Antico, artist, prize Co-Principal Sponsor and Marlene’s son joined 2ser’s Sean Britten to talk about the prize his family holds close.
