Franklin River No Dams Blockade – a Model for Direct Climate Action

The movie Franklin is about to hit the national cinemas and the No Dams Blockade is at its 40-year anniversary. The blockade saved the Franklin river and its national heritage forests from the hydroelectric dam slated by government in Tasmania. It is Australia’s epic birth of the green movement and continues to be an inspiration. It’s the national protest action that launched the career of former Prime Minister Bob Hawke.

The film’s main character is Oliver Cassidy, the son of Michael Cassidy – a world renowned environmental activist in the 1980’s. He fought to save the Franklin River from the dam along with illustrious Senator Bob Brown.  Interviewee Talent:  Oliver Cassidy
