International Women’s Day 2024: Investing in women

This year’s theme for IWD is  Invest in women: Accelerate progress– to improve gender based disparity faced by women and encourage economic empowerment, for a positive future!

Statistics show on average women are responsible for 3x more unpaid domestic and care work,  compared to men while being proportionally disadvantaged in area of workplace promotion, with a gender pay gap of a  minimum average of 12% in Australia (according to the latest ABS data from 2023). However, there is hope for the future, as governments are slowly making structural changes to support women in accessing economic equality.

To discuss this further Professor Rae Cooper, with a discipline in Work and Employment Relations at the University of Sydney Business school. She is also a founding Director of the Australian Centre for Gender Equality and Inclusion at Work, president Elect of the International Labor and Employment Relations Association and extensive research focusing on gender equality issues in the workplace, joined Jenny and Annie  on the Breakfast for International Women’s Day
