Can you be addicted to your phone?

Mobile phones aren’t what they used to be – brick-like, basic, antennas, indestructible – they’re slimmer, smaller and smarter. So smart, in fact, there’s an app for virtually everything, keeping us closer and more attached to our phones.
But is smartphone addiction actually a thing? Psychologist and digital nutritionist Jocelyn Brewer doesn’t think so – it’s not an addiction per se, rather a compulsive behaviour.
She spoke to Nic about digital nutrition and ways in which to cut down phone usage.
