Customers in Queensland, NSW and Victoria were urged to throw away all of their strawberries after needles were discovered in punnets from two Queensland brands.

Since these events, localized fruit tampering has grown into a major health scare with needles being found in six different brands of strawberries, as well as apples and bananas, across six states. Authorities are inquiring whether this is a spree of copycat crime.

Sam Baran spoke with Dr Claire Ferguson, a senior lecturer in the faculty of Law at Queensland University of Technology regarding this new issue.
