A Rainforest right inside the city – Alchemy of a Rainforest

Rainforests are the lungs and heart of Earth; their outstanding biodiversity and complex composition serves as a basis for all sort of lifeforms to prosper, and the ecosystem itself is involved in close to all cycles of life and death that exist in our world.

Most Sydneysiders would find it very difficult to ever see these wonderful places with their own eyes, however, thanks to the Royal botanic Garden’s Alchemy of a rainforest exhibition, you might just get a taste!

One of the biggest living walls of the southern hemisphere, Alchemy of the rainforest is a true wonder to see: It features all kinds of tropical and subtropical plants species as well as artistic depictions of the ephemeral species that would not survive long enough for us to see them. Jane Gillings, the artist behind these unorganic pieces available at the exhibition, accompanies us today here at 2SER to talk about her creations and their making up from up-cycled materials such as plastics, as well as the role that has on conveying the importance of being environmentally conscious to keep these ecosystems alive.

Go visit Alchemy of a Rainforest at The Calyx, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, open from 10am to 4pm, and experience sub/tropical wonder right inside the city.
