Amyl & The Sniffers voted “Static” listeners’ Favourite Album of 2021
On 2SER’s “Static” we rolled out our listener-picked Top 10 Albums of 2021.
Thanks to everyone who voted!
Top spot this year goes to Melbourne’s punk firebrands Amyl & The Sniffers for their cracking second album “Comfort To Me”.
Written in a share house during Melbourne’s series of lockdowns, the record found the band growing up and finding more of their own unique voice.
It still addressed lots of their own concerns – “Security” was an anthem for anyone not being allowed back in the pub. But vocalist Amy had also sharpened her lyrical focus, too – “Knifey” was a harrowing account of only feeling safe walking at night with a blade in her hand.
Above all, its desire for change and escapism was palpable – its riffs were blazing and its energy electric. “Hertz” described getting out of the city and away from any problems … and also taking time to stop off at the fish and chip shop on the way. A big battered sav of a #1 album this year!
