The Blak Markets are Back on Bare Island
As we near the end of another Sydney summer and gear up for some much needed rain, you may find yourself without any weekend plans for the first time this year. Luckily, the Blak Markets are upon us once again. This year the first of the four market days is being held in an old military fort on Bare Island, just off Little Bay in the Eastern Suburbs. Blak Markets hosts a range of indigenous artists, craftspeople and storytellers, and aims to encourage support for the local community in Sydney
Peter Cooley, the CEO of FirstHand Solutions– the event organisers, talked to Sidd Sharma about what Bare Island means to him, delicious bush food on offer and the unmissable artists on show this weekend. Heads up, the shell-workers are a must-see.
Blak Markets are on this Sunday 24th February, entry is $2.50 per person, free for kids under five, and a great way to learn about and support the local indigenous community.
