Greens Campaign to Legalise Cannabis

Cannabis and its derivatives have been listed as a dangerous drug in 1925.  Australia joined with the League of Nations in Geneva,  banning  3 plant-based drugs, namely, opium, coca and cannabis. But now, the Australian Greens have started a campaign to legalise cannabis. Supported by members of the medical community cannabis is apparently quite effective in countering chronic pain and anxiety attacks. At the Greens ” A  J-o-i-n-t Effort”  Forum people heard about how the use of cannabis is still stigmatised, especially among the NSW Police force.  Interviewee: MP Greens David Shoebridge, Lawyer: Cassy Judy and forum participants.

International Migrants Day Women Voices – The UN says migration between countries have served critical services to both sides. For the receiving country it helps with filling the gaps for  low skilled workers, so their citizens can do the jobs they prefer to do. While for the host country it helps their citizens to find opportunities for a better life. Research shows advantages for migration outweigh the disadvantages.  18 December is International Migrants Day where the contribution of migrants to many countries is recognised worldwide.  Razors Edge caught up with a few women to hear how, despite the challenges of migration they live rich and meaningful lives in Australia. The women are from Sydney and Western Sydney – are Marilyn, Lia, Betty Nguyen and Wendy El-Khoury.  Interviewee:  Marilyn, Lia, Betty and Wendy   Reporter/Producer: Annamarie Reyes
