Unfortunately, when it comes to race relations here in Australia and indeed in a lot of other nations it does sometimes feel like one step forward two steps back. Although we see overt racism here at home soundly rejected racial tensions seem to be at an incredible high between white Australians and the all-encompassing Other, those who according to some of the loudest, angriest voices are not true Aussies at all. Sean Britten spoke to the artist responsible for the “Real Australians Say Welcome” campaign who has a new project challenging our perception of just who is an Aussie in this country, Peter Drew.
